Bishop and Sister Beazer's 67th Ward Memories

2011 Get-Together

We learned that a few of the ward members were going to be in town and decided to get together with them and any others who were available. The problem not everyone could come at the same time. We decided to have several. They began and ended at Beazerville.
First we had a handful that could only come on Friday morning. This is a great time for train rides and conveniently mother nature cooperated. We had a great time. The more little ones the better. The following Monday we had FHE at Broulims. You never go to Broulims without eating, and eating we did. Sister Broulim cooked up scones and honey butter (find the recipe under When the Bishop cooks"), with Brother Broulim taking care of the corn. We also had all the trimmings for Navaho Tacos, Yummy. (the salsa recipe can also be found under When the Bishop Cooks).
We ate, swapped babies, talked, laughed, hugged and basically the Beazers had their well of love filled. They were getting severely dry.

It was so nice to see and visit with so many former members. Not everyone knew each other as this spanned all three years we served in the BYU-I 67th Ward.

It always great to share our successes, our failures, our cute baby stories and mostly our memories.

Remember it was a FHE so we had a singing activity for the little ones (THANKS Jenna). They fished for songs.

Little children love to sing, they really know their songs.

The adults took time to play a little ball. What are the odds that the same tree would eat the volley ball bought to replace the one it ate last time we played at Broulims?)

Adventures were to be had as the play house was explored. What a cute kitchen. The comment was often heard "this is nicer than my apartment." (have to brag, the bishop built the kitchen and had a lot of fun doing it.)

To get to the play house you have to cross a very dangerous footbridge. Luckily the water over the ditch was shallow and pride would have been the greatest damage.

Along with the playhouse comes the zipline. Even Brother Wilding tried it out. Fun, Fun, Fun.

A last minute volleyball game. The old folks where sore, sore, sore the next day.

The last of the get together was back as Beazerville on Satuday. Not many came but those that did enjoyed train rides and food.

Boys will be boys. They found the bike and decided to ride it, but mostly they just got a good workout.

The little boys had to ride the train every spare moment, even when putting it away for the night. They loved it.

We had plenty of little boys who hopefully began the start of a long term friendship.

Careful we have been know to throw away naughty boys.

Our well of love and memories is filled to overflowing and for this we are thankful. Lets do it again next year.

Ward Get-Together Directions

We are having a ward get-together or two, to compare memories and show off babies.

First on June 27th @ 6:30pm, we will have a FHE at Brother and Sister Broulims (rumor has it she will be making scones, yummy).

Then for those who can't make that, and/or those who just love to party with us,

July 2nd @ 2pm at Beazerville, we will be having train rides with food to follow.

Come to one or the other or both.

Directions to Broulims, 451 N. 3900 E. Rigby:

From Rexburg: Take the North Rigby exit, then turn right on Stockham Blvd pass by Wendys go one block west to the next stop sign. Take a right onto 3950 E (also known as Annis Hwy), and go the next corner (fire station on west corner and Rocky Mountain Power on east corner). Turn left (west) onto 400 North and go 1/2 mile to 3900 East. Turn right (north) and go 1/2 mile to 451, turn left down their lane. It is just past a canal. The house is back off the road a ways, but you will be able to see it , large with lots of trees.

Watch for the white pickup with 67th Ward on the side.

From Idaho Falls: Take the North Rigby exit, cross over Hwy 20 and turn right on Stockham blvd, then continue with above directions.

Directions to Beazerville, 695 North 4200 East (due to road construction do not follow google maps):

From Rexburg
Take the North Rigby exit, turn left over Hwy 20, and head north on N. Yellowstone Hwy approximately 2 miles. You will come to a canal and a sign saying "road closed to thru traffic". At this point you must make a decision, do you go through another mile, coming to the road construction, sneak past the signs, go to 700 N. turn right over the railroad tracks and you are there, or do you turn right onto 600n. go one mile to 4200 E., take a left and follow the road past one curve and just after you come more road construction, take a right, follow the road, (it will curve to the west) and to until you get to Beazerville? Either way will get you there and both will have some road construction.

Take the North Rigby exit, turn right on N Yellowstome highway follow rest of above directions.

Farewell to the Stake Presidency

Today we ventured back up to the 8th Stake to show our love and support for the Stake Presidency who was being released. We felt very blessed to have had the opportunity to work with these men, to sit at their feet and be taught, to feel their love as we got to know them. They were an important part of our time at BYU-I. President Brent Strong, President Jay Harris, President Randy Johnson

A BIG THANK-YOU to these men.

I am sure the new presidency are equally great men, but we will not have the opportunity to work with them. We wish them the best.

Unofficial BYU-I 67th Ward Reunion

What is it. some former members came to town and we decided it was a good excuse to get folks together and refill our oil well. We called it a reunion but it was really therapy for us. We love and miss being with all of you every week. Even though we love our home ward, this is where our hearts are, it felt so normal, so right to be with those who could come.

So what did we do for this great event.

We gathered at Beazerville, for good food (the bishop cooked chicken, actually his son and daughter-in-law cooked it, everyone brought something to go with it), fun and train rides. It was the first time for most of them and the hightlight of all the little ones. Some, big and little, just couldn't get enough. Mother Nature had her own idea of how things should go. she blew and blew and blew, so we ended up moving it into the garage/shop/barn/train shed whatever you want to call it.

THANKS to all who came, brought yummy food, rode the train and restored us to a bit of sanity. We missed those who couldn't come or forgot.

Jared and Cait are coming from Texas, and since there are so many people they would love to see and since we are having withdrawal issues, we decided to have an

"Unofficial BYU-I 67th Ward Reunion".

If you know us from the 67th Ward you are invited. (Please RSVP if you are coming). It will be July 5th, 6:30 -9:30 at Beazerville (or 695 N. 4200 E. for those who don't know the way, due to road construction, don't google, ask for directions, also this is not our house address.) I have on good authority that the Beazer ShortLine will be running. The Bishop (probably really Sister Beazer as he is also the head engineer) will be cooking chicken. So bring something tasty to go with that. Plates, cups, silverware and cold water will be available.

We hope to reacquaint with all our old memories. (Remember to RSVP).

One of the things we miss most about serving up to BYU-I is the people. Every once in a while an opportunity comes up that means getting together with a few of them, and it refills the oil in our lamp.

Tonight was extra special, such that I was willing to actually be in a picture. Of course I made sure I had some great company with their cute baby bellies. Thanks Erin, Rachel, Samantha, Jenna, Kirsten and Calli.

I have been rejuvenated.

I wish I could come up for the big divide this coming Sunday, but I have a calling that requires I be in the home ward. Sunday School and 14 year olds and I love it, although not as much as I loved being up there.

Fun in the Snow

Usually when we go to Island Park it is too work. Not this trip it was just fun in the snow. Yes, snow can be fun.

This bishop arranged with some friends to borrow their cabin and snow mobiles. His family from Utah came up and stayed for the weekend. FUN, FUN, FUN. 14 adults, 7 little children (the oldest had just turned 7). We ate, played card games, xbox, wii, ate, watched movies, ate, put together puzzles, ate, went to church, ate, played in the snow, ate some more and even snuck a little sleep in. Did I mention we ate, way too much. This waiting for the rest of the group to head out on a quick trip.

It was nice to get away for a couple of days, spend time with family and just have fun.

We don't always have to do the visiting. Sometimes they come to us and that is always a good thing. It's like a breath of fresh air, a shot in the arm of good cheer, a welcome event.

So how did the bishop spend his New Years?
We are notoriously boring for the event. Most years we are snoring away when the midnight ball drops. We planned on this year being the same. We went to a movie (Sherlock Holmes, a lot of action for sure) then came home planning on making an early night of it as usual. Our son was up playing games and so to be social we played also. Before we knew it the New Year was upon us. Luckily most people can sleep in, except the old folks like us, whose bodies say it's time to get up before the rest of the world. A well deserved nap was certainly in order.

Yes, that really is a teddy bear, graciously loaned to him by his great niece. We had taken the bishops mother to go see "New Moon" then dashed home because the niece and her two daughters were in town. They loved playing with Uncle Syd and talked him into taking a nap, not a hard task to do. They thought it would easier with their furry friend.

We hope everyone had a Happy and Safe New Years eve and day and that 2010 will bring lots of happiness and success.

Gone but not forgotten...

One of the best aspects about serving up to BYU-I is the many friends we made. Each semester many moved away from Rexburg, but our friendship never ended. They are eternal. We have made trips to Utah, California, Texas and even Boise just to check on them. This week some former 67th Warders Jared and Cait (he was in the bishopric) were visiting parents in Boise. We couldn't resist after all we had yet to meet their newest little one. We had a wonderful time. It was so nice to visit with them.

The Bishop was so excited to see the pictures, he could hardly wait for me to down load them. We so miss everyone. There is something special about serving up to BYU-I. We feel so blessed to have had this privilege.

Now to go through withdrawal symptoms again.

'We'll have a blue Christmas without you"

We got adventurous this year, and used all LED lights on the tree. Let's just say it's BLUE.
It makes a statement for sure. We are the talk of the neighborhood. Next year we will tone it down with some white mixed in. It's blue for sure but I love it, (except for needing to wear shades to protect the eyes when in the room).

This weekend our son had drill (Air Force Reserves). We didn't want him to drive down and back by himself and since we are without callings still, we tagged along. Some of the things we did were to attend the Primary Children's Festival of Trees, participate in a session at the Draper temple, hangout with computer geeks (not on the agenda, last minute pick up of a computer for someone, an adventure in itself), attend the Mormon Tabernacle Choir 'Spoken Word' broadcast and enjoy the lights on temple square.

Believe it or not we actually posed for a picture. It was bitter cold, but we toughed it out Idaho style, lots of layers.

We will miss sharing the Christmas season with our BYU-I 67th friends and hope it is a wonderful one for each of you.

Thanksgiving 2009

It was a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had so many blessings to be thankful for. One of those blessings is the opportunity we had to work with and serve the members of the BYU-I 67th Ward. Even though we are sad to not be up there anymore, we are so thankful for the time we were able to spend up there. We loved every minute of it and feel as if so many of you are our eternal friends. Thank-you for your kindness, your patience and especially your love.
Thought I should let you know how the bishop spent his Thanksgiving, after we had eaten and done the dishes. Yup, he turned the counter into a work bench. So amidst the cheers of game playing (sorry no football, haven't learned to appreciate it yet) and laughing he did homework. No he's not going to school, he just brought his work home. That's just the way he is .

Hope your Thanksgiving was great, because ours was.

I love to see the temple

Tonight we went to the Idaho Falls Temple to do sealings with our home ward. One of the perks of the IF Temple is the cafeteria and Friday night Prime Rib. It's not as good as at 'The Pines' in Island Park but the price is right and usually there is tasty pie to go with it. We try to take advantage of it when we can and tonight was no different. The only problem or two was that it just wasn't the same as going with the 67th Ward. We went with the high priests, yes the old fogeys in the ward. We never felt that way up to the college. You kept us young. Part of being an old fogey is your eyesight goes and with it your taste in clothes. Not really, it just seemed that way. The bishop dashed home from work with just enough time to take a quick shower and shave and dress. He can do it in 15 minutes, only because he has low maintenance hair. When we arrived at the temple, who was standing their but Brother (now Bishop of the 79th ward) Stallings. We chatted briefly and then turned to head downstairs to enjoy our dinner when I noticed (and hoped Bro. Stallings hadn't noticed) what the Bishop was wearing. He had thoughtfully picked out socks, shoes and a belt, then hurriedly donned the first pair of suit pants, grabbing a coat as he went out the door. Blue pin stripped pants and a charcoal jacket, hmmmm, a bit nerdy. We immediately decided to change into our white clothes before anyone noticed. Dinner was tasty as usual. Later, as we sat waiting to start the sealings a wave of homesickness for the 67th ward hit. What were doing in a room with so much gray hair and wrinkles? It just didn't seem right. Interestingly most of the priesthood there had also been bishops of student wards. They could feel our pain and just encouraged us that it gets better with time. We luckily have a great home ward, but it just isn't the BYU-I 67th Ward. You are embedded deep in our hearts and are greatly missed. The church is still true, even in Rigby and the IF Temple is a place of great peace and love.

Halloween at our house

Halloween is a big thing at our house, not because we are in love with it but because we get so many trick or treaters. One year we got over 600. Tonight was typical of most, about 400. That's a lot of Candy. The little ones are so cute we love it. Even the dog likes it. It's hard to tell from this picture but you've seen the shows on TV that have mobs walking the street. That's our street.

I grow my own pumpkins and they always turn out unusually shaped. It makes them more original to carve. This year we decided to try something new. Cookie cutter to make most of the cut outs. It was super easy, fast and they turned out very unique. We will do it again next year.

What to do with all the spare time?

So what does one do with all their spare time now that they have Tuesday nights free. After 7 1/2 years of wearing a white shirt and tie (he only wore one this week)and being in Rexburg it's time to find out what goes on our house. This week was rather nice. We had a cooler full of apples to take care of. What else could he do, the bishop helped out. He peeled enough apples to make 10 quarts of apple pie filling and a dehydrator full of slices. He even cleaned up. He's an alright kind of guy, and I think I will hang on to him.

The next night he tackled sewing, yes sewing. Each year he does the set for the Bar J Wranglers. It takes some real thought, and work. We have used scrims in to past and he wanted to extend them out. I ironed and he sewed and did a great job. A real Suzy Homemaker. Who knows what else he will take up. Maybe now instead of just looking up recipes on the Internet he will actually start cooking them. He tried making rice krispie treats the other day. Don't ask, they didn't turn out.

Hopefully you will all have a great Halloween. We will be open for Trick or Treaters until we run out of candy.

Too much time on our hands

We (the bishop and I) went to the home ward to church, and it was awful, well maybe not that bad. It's just we felt so out of place and our hearts and minds were somewhere north of here. Sunday morning was strange, we weren't quite sure what to do with all the extra time. The home ward meets at 1 and the bishop was use to leaving about 9 to be there for his first meeting. What does one do with all that time. We read the newspaper, he finished a book he'd started, (the first one he's made it all the way through since being called up there), I indexed, We started dinner, just ordinary stuff that we haven't done together for the last 7 years.
The bishop has commented several times through the last 3 years that he didn't know what he thought about before because the ward was always on his mind, whether it was a calling to be filled or someone to be helped or just the general welfare of everyone. I guess we will find out. He hasn't stopped thinking about you. We'll just keep thinking of you for the next eternity or two.

It was inevitable, we've known for over 3 years that this day would come. Did we want it too, NO! We (the Bishop and I) have felt like the luckiest people in the church because of the opportunity we have had in serving at BYU-I and especially in the 67th ward. I know that we are better people because of this. It has truly strengthened our testimonies in the love of our Heavenly Father for us. So many of you have touched us in one way or another and always for the better. We have loved every minute of this service. Thank you for your love and support and help in making the ward function and succeed like it did. Every person was valuable. You will all be greatly missed.

The last thing we did was have a bishopric social. I wish we could have had the whole ward but our house is only so large. We fed them and talked and reminisced and laughed for old times sake.

After dinner some of the guys took on the dishes. Thanks it was a great help, (I don't let many load the dish washer, one of my hang-ups). They should be on the activities committee they did such a good job.

After all this they began the practice for the song that we requested. "Brightly Beams our Father's Mercy". It was a well known fact that we had the most musically talented Counselors and Clerks in the stake. They sounded wonderful and I can't thank them enough.

The wives as they enjoyed the practice.

Oh and last but not least the new bishop is Jay Kohler, with counselors Golden Tawzer and Tyler Peterson.

A frequent familiar memory

This is/was a familiar site, so often seen around the complex, especially at the end of a semester, whether moving in or out. The moving van. Of course a move needs a little help and it wasn't unusual to see several men step up to the task. It didn't matter if it was the first or third floor they showed up.

It also wasn't unusual to see them rewarded with goodies or even pizza.

Moving will always be a big part of the school scene.

I realized that I had forgotten to post memories the last two weeks, OOPS!
This coming week is going to be a long one and yet too fast. So many thoughts and memories will be going through our minds, I doubt sleep will be big on the list. We have loved every minute of serving at BYU-I and especially in the 67th Ward. We have made some of our dearest friends and feel we are better because we have known so many of you. All Aboard

On a perfect fall day the play group/kids loaded up and headed to Beazerville, (found just south of the Lorenzo Bridge)where they boarded the Beazer Short Line and headed off on the adventure of a little ones lifetime.

The train holds all ages, you just have to pretend you are a kid at heart.

The cameras flashed nonstop and so many adorable pictures were taken (check out the various blogs and facebook for more).

Fond Friday Memories

On a chilly spring day a day in the sun was just what the ward needed. The ward had a dinner, played baseball and some other games. I think everyone had fun despite needing jackets and blankets to stay warm.

Fond Friday

Back in the early days before we had our nice church, complete with quilting stands, we took on a quilting project. My sister loves to sew tops together, but doesn't have time to quilt them. We had a quilting party at our house. Most who came were new to it, so they did the best they could in the best way way they could. One spouse would sit on the floor pushing the needle up and the other stood overhead and pushed the needle down.

As you can see this wasn't necessarily the best thing to do as there were a few that needed to be fixed. Overall the evening was a success.

Recipe exchange enrichment

Enrichment this week was a recipe exchange. You were to bring your favorite main dish recipes and if possible a sample of it. I didn't take many pictures because I was too busy sampling all the good things that showed up. Sorry Bethany is blurry, that's what she gets for moving too quickly.

If you want to know who is who, well you must come to Enrichment and meet everyone.

You found the recipes you wanted, tasted some and wrote them down.

You might even have to discuss the proper cooking techniques.

I know I brought home several tasty new ideas for dinner and may try one this summer.

A big THANKS to Broulims

After four and 1/2 years of incredible service the Broulims were released from serving in our stake. They will be greatly missed. Sister Broulim served as the Stake Relief Society President and Brother Broulim as a High Counselor, with his final assignment in our ward. We were so blessed to have them. They are the most generous people I know and there are not enough words to properly express our appreciation. Monday night we surprised them with a final FHE. (Actually we surprised Brother Broulim, Sister Vonnie Lou was our accomplice)
We met at their house where we sang an original song "The grocery man", played the yes or no bean game (Wilcox's are brutal), ate, watched a short video of their service and had an organ recital. Totally wonderful evening.

Brother Broulim was able to give his final speech and express his love.

Pumpkin chocolate cookies and more

This was the sight at the clubhouse on Sunday night. The ward had a post CES Fireside Ice Cream social. The bishop made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies (YUMMMM) and brought brownies. Didn't know you could put 100 people in the small space but we did. Actually these belong to the Smithsons. We had an after a CES fireside social at the clubhouse and it was so easy to just walk across the parking lot in whatever. There obviously wasn't any snow yet.

He was a great high councilor until he was called to be a bishop.This was taken after a break the fast at the Austin. Neither Bro/Bishop Wilding or Bishop Beazer where afraid to help with the final clean up. Fond memories for us.

Moving adventures

Tuesday was a big moving day. I don't know how many made the big move but supposedly 18 apartments were checked in to. I got there at the end of the day and was able to catch some to the typical things that went on.
Sorry the pictures aren't the best, it was the end of the day and I am a very amateur photographer with a cheap camera.
All the little stuff was quickly carried up stairs, then it was time to tackle the bigger more bulky stuff. The ladies were not to be out done. They grabbed a set of box springs and headed up. The first set of corners took only a moment to figure out the secret and in no time at all they had achieved their goal.
You can see the ladies in the upper set of turns. The men are just starting up with the mattress.

The really tough one was the sofa. It took about 20 minutes to complete the task at hand. The secret is to start with a LARGE, HEAVY sofa, round up 4 or 5 willing men and begin the adventure. the first flight was relatively easy then came the corners. They had to rest and discuss at each turn.
Despite the challenge they succeeded and the family was moved in and can now unpack.

Tuesday night he will attempt again, but there are suppose to be even more new ones move in then. Wow, the ward is growing and changing weekly, daily, hourly.

The Enrichment activity tonight was a CUPCAKE MANIA. So very yummy and fun. First we had five different kinds of cupcakes, (all delicious, I know because I tried them all) and several types of frosting, top it off with every imaginable flavor of toppings.

In Rexburg, behind the middle school is a hidden lake/park. The ward had connections (thanks Anderson twins) and we held our Summer luau there, complete with Polynesian dancers and especially "Bob" who did a special perfomance for us. The lake included paddle boats, canoes, and a zip line. A beautiful evening was enjoyed by everyone. The Miller's taking the paddle boat for a spin.

Freezing Float Trip

Brrrrrr, Saturday turned cold, but we are tough. The ward went on a short float trip down the Snake River drybeds. (named because it is a dry channel in the winter) After meeting at Brother and Sister Broulims, they donned their suits, grabbed a blue tube and off they went. While the adventerous ones were off getting cold those with little ones stayed at Broulims to nap and visit. Even a few of the not so little ones took a nap.
After the frozen ones returned (okay they weren't really frozen, just chilled) they were greeted with yummy food, and lots of it.

They sat on the deck enjoyed the sun and got warm and full.

It was fun for everyone.

Thanks again Broulims for being the best hosts around. You share your house and yard, your talents and best of all your love.

The first time the Bishop cooked our Salt and Vinegar grilled chicken in the ward it was coollldddd..... This of course was back before we had the new church. So we cooked it at the shelter by the Church just to the west of World Gym, then took it over to enjoy at the clubhouse/lounge. It was tasty as witnessed by Ross.

Relief Society Food Preparation and Preparedness Fair

The Stake Relief Society put on a Food Preservation/Preparedness Fair. There were 4 areas of focus and those who attended found something for each of them. We had quite a few who attended but it was tricky to sneak around taking pictures without annoying everyone. You in the ward are use to me doing it. The ward decided to do a service project. A chance to help someone else, show what "Charity" really means. We tied 3 quilts and colored at least 10 file folder games. Of course there was also plenty of food to go around, pizza, chips, cookies.

On Saturday nights they have been having a get-to-know-your-neighbor building activity. Tonight was buildings 2 and 9. Hamburgers and hotdogs were cooked on the grill with other yummy stuff served on the side. Despite the blustery wind (must be in Idaho) and threatening clouds it was a nice evening. Brother Orr (they are new to the ward) could swap stories of who ate what with the best of them.

Rexburg Nature Park Clean-up

The ward took the opportunity to do a service project. They cleaned up the Rexburg Nature Park. Despite the cloudy and chilly weather, young and all gathered to help.

Like all good ward activities it began with muffins and juice. Can't expect the folks to works on an empty stomach. Besides, it gives everyone a chance to mix and mingle before they take on the work.

If I didn't know better, I would suspect these gents are playing a network game like Halo or something. They are so intent on what they are doing. After all when the bishopric gets together it's a party. I have the pictures to prove it.

Even the bishop looks intent on learning.

But the truth of the matter is they got together to work on setting up the ward on the I learn/ Blackboard through the school. When all the fine tuning is done you will be able to access the ward directory, get all the announcements, and even check out you visiting/home teaching assignments. One less excuse for not getting it done.

The Ward had the opportunity to have FHE with President and Sister Clark. As can be expected it was a rewarding evening filled with excellent advice.

If you put the important things (Spiritual: prayer, reading scriptures, attending the temple, etc. )first, then trust in the Lord that you can organize the rest of your time, you will be blessed
Always take the little ones to church, even if you feel you are getting nothing out of it, because it teaches them from the start to know where they should be on Sundays. Read to sons about the priesthood so they will be prepared when they turn 12.
Love your family members who have fallen away or chosen a different lifestyle. By your loving example and patience they will know what the right path is and someday return.
Through the atonement we can overcome the natural man. It isn't easy but with work and time it can happen. You may fall back but through repentance we can always go forward.

Where were we?

Just sharing a few pictures of our (the bishop and I) Texas adventure. We left Wednesday afternoon for San Antonio TX, to watch our son graduate from Air Force Basic Training. Our flight included a lay over in Dallas/Fort Worth. Some of our former ward members just happened to live there and met us with a plate full of homemade chocolate chip cookies. They really look great and are slowly meshing into life there, but miss everyone back in Idaho.

We took advantage of going to the Alamo. Despite the cold and rainy weather there was a 20 minute wait. We also went along the riverwalk, quite a pretty place, lots of shopping and restaurants. We also went to our first semi-pro hockey game (the home team lost) and tried alligator.
Overall the trip was COLD, WET, RAINY, basically miserable weatherwise. The only sun we saw escorted us to the airport. We spent alot of time doing the hurry up and wait, and wait, and wait. We are tired, but happy to have spent a few days with our son before he goes to tech training in Mississippi.

What do you do with 160 bread bowls? That is a good question, one that the 67th ward can answer. We just have a "Soup in a bowl" Sunday, and it was so very tasty. We met at the church right after meeting got over, where food was a plenty. Soup, salads (even the bishop made one) and yummy desserts. (Did you try Abbie's cornbread, it was a definite go back for seconds cornbread?)

Relief Society Fun

The Relief Society held their 2009 Opening Social/Visiting Teaching Conference in the lounge. It was an enjoyable evening as those who attended played a few games and got to know each other better. Then a Visiting Teaching challenge was given while they made flower pens for each sister. Of course the evening was finished up with a few treats. Admitting to either having lived outside the country or gotten a speeding ticket.

At the start of each semester the Church broadcasts a fireside for CES students and any other student who would like to watch. The Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson spoke at the last one, after which we the met at the church for rootbeer floats and games and to just get to know each other better.

Not often, maybe once or twice a year, the bishop leaves the house before seven in the morning, and passes back through the door after putting in fourteen hours in the service of the Lord. It is tiring, but oh so worth it. He never complains. So if you should see him standing up, eyes closed and almost asleep it might have been one of those days. Just prod him gently so he doesn't accidentally start snoring.

Blue Screen of Death

The year has started out with a bang at the Beazer house. It began with the "Blue Screen of Death" and of course it wasn't properly backed up. First we heard some strange clicking that came and went. Our immediate reaction was to back up and shut down, only this was not what it wanted to do. It locked up promptly, something it likes to do when it's feeling stubborn. Then came the evil blue screen with something about an unmountable boot sector proudly displayed on it.
Luckily we have another computer, which was used to research out what this lovely error message could possibly mean. It didn't look too serious just time consuming. We put a call into our specialist, (after the bishop is barely computer literate and I am only a few grades ahead of him), who walked us through some fairly simple steps. How hard could it be to drop in a CD, click a few keys and sit back and wait, and wait, and wait. Several hours later, the screen said all fixed, just restart. Hah, what a laugh. No such luck. The blue screen presented us with a new message, winsrv can't be found and must be reloaded before it will agree to work. Another call to the specialist, who help us with some good old-fashioned dos commands to hopefully fix the new problem. Again failure, what could this be? This was now serious and it sounds as if it will need a complete overhaul. But what about the important files that weren't properly backed up. With computers side by side, we downloaded software on to the cooperative computer that could possibly breath enough life back into the obstinate one to retrieve the precious data. First attempt failed, of course. Second attempt took a while, but it somewhat worked. It's a good thing our specialist is from the old school, and knows linux commands.
Now we are waiting until the life support team comes up to vacation so we can transport it down to Utah to the specialist, who will do a more thorough check up, run more tests and determine what kind of transplant surgery will be needed. It's very likely that it will come back, after a long recovery period, as good as new, except it will have lost it's long term memory.
Please be patient with the bishop as he has to share computers again.

PS. The specialist just happens to be the bishops brother who is a computer program with a masters in computer science. The only draw back is he lives in Orem, luckily we come and go from that direction often enough it shouldn't take more than a few months.

Stake New Years Eve Party

The Stake sponsored a party and what a fun party it was. The only thing wrong with the party is that there weren't alot from our ward to share in the fun, dancing with a live DJ, a cake walk, Wii, guitar hero and Xbox, board games, giant Twister, Karoke, and lots of pizza and munchies. Kimballs were on the planning committee. They did a great job.

The Bishop and Sister Beazer invited a few folks over for an evening of getting to know you and games. Kind of a Family Home Evening. They really need to do it more often. The bishop is setting a new years goal, and that is to have more of the ward in our home, more frequently. Let us know if you would be willing to make the trip to the big city of Rigby.

Out with the old, In with the new

For the last two years, the bishop has used a manilla folder to keep himself organized. He wrote notes on it, doodled on it, and wore them out on a regular basis. But someone felt sorry for him and decided it was time to move up in the world, he now has a five star folder. No excuses for not being neatly organized now.

I'm posting these for all those who have decided to spend Christmas someplace warm and green. Today we ran up to Island Park to do a quick job. We have snow and bitter cold down here in the lower elevations but they have a ton of it up north. It was beyond beautiful. The tree looked lik snow soldiers marching proudly down the sides of the road.

The elegant swans and geese didn't seem to mind the cold. They spent their time preening and eating.

It was Christmas card perfect, even the fence posts wore caps of snow.

So for those of you who have to spend the break golfing and sun bathing, we here in the land of snow will be enjoying a truly white Christmas and loving every snow flake.

Rob's Cheesy Surpise

Slice some zucchini, (you may also use yellow crookneck squash) season with salt to taste, put a little water on it, cover and microwave till soft, but not mushy. Doesn't take long, so watch carefully. Pour water off and sprinkle grated cheese over top stirring clockwise at least 3 stirs. Cover and let cheese melt. Serve and enjoy.
Rebecca and Kent say you can fry the squash in a little butter also and it is equally as yummy, but then anything cooked in butter is yummy.
Try it you and you'll be surprised at how good and easy to make it is.

How the Bishop does Thanksgiving

Just in case you wondered what the Bishop does on Thanksgiving here are a few pictures.

First we begin with the pre-dinner nap. This is critical so you have plenty of energy to tackle all that turkey.

Then there is the post dinner nap. Even the dog, Pugsy, is worn out by eating dinner (he loves brussel sprouts and marshmellows).
While the rest of the family is playing games he is ever focused. Work, work, work.
Then he tackles his talk. Yes, he is scheduled to talk on Sunday along with the Jared and Marc. I will be there, hope you will also.

We feel so blessed to serve in the BYU-I 67th ward. It is one of our greatest joys to be with you each Sunday. We love to hang out in the complex and watch you come and go. You are the cream of the crop. So many of you have touched us in ways you will never know. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives.

Talent Show

An evening of fun, We met at the church for donuts and hot chocolate, conversation and a few moments of role playing. We divided into 2 groups and using props that various people brought (the bishop brought a plumbers helper) you had to figure out what they were doing.

One group used props to display emotions, such as joy, frustration etc.

The other group gave the props emotions and of course you had to guess what the emotion was.
Billy demostrate the joy of a warm hat.

Steven uses a the confidence scarf.

Although not a lot of people came we had a good time and plenty of food.

When the Elders Quorum parties they do it right and without a lot of fluff.

The occasion: BYU vs U of U football. The menu: Baby back ribs and trimmings

First they had to unload the grill, which Brother Broulim so kindly brought. Brother Trevino tried orchestrating the process but then realized that man power was need for this big boy grill. The bishop had been to the temple a little earlier and was still in his suit so he didn't assist.

The big question of the day was how do we light this thing?

Then the men take over.

While some patiently waited, others discussed which team they were for and who should win and why. Putting the finishing touches on the ribs.
Will they every get done?

Others avoided the chilly fall air and took advantage of staking out a place at the tables.
Finally it's chow time. Brother Broulim filled their plates high with ribs.

After they ate and cleaned up, they headed to the Rex to watch the game on a big screen. U of U won, yeah for their fans, Boo for the BYU fans. This was such a big event that the news media came and several of them made the news.

When the Bishop isn't being bishop, boss, husband, father, son, set designer, train engineer, uncle, and basically a jack of all trades and a master of none, he is helping the neighbors with their projects. Tonight he was a busy setting up for a wedding.

The wedding reception should be beautiful, done in orange and browns, a rustic house complete with picket fence and wishing well. Besides being our neighbor the bride is Sister Beazer's visiting teacher.

About 10 years ago our neighbor, who is a member of the city Chamber of Commerce, asked the bishop to help him with the backdrop/set for the Bar J Wranglers, which the chamber sponsors each year. After the first couple of years the neighbor just turned it over to us and the Bishop runs with it. For those of you who are not from this area or are not familiar with the Bar J, they are a group of singing cowboys. They spend 2 hours entertaining with lots of jokes and the old cowboy classics, such as "Tumbling tumbleweed" and "Ghost riders in the sky" The set we have used for the last three years.

The first week in November we go in late the night before, after the students have left and things settle down at the local high school, and hang the scrims (big white sheets), starch them and lay out the set. Then they next morning he goes in and stands up the rest of the set, working around the students and with the studio A team to get the lighting correct. Just as school gets out the cowboys show up and set up their instruments and sound system.

Show time: Donny "The Smurf" who plays the steel guitar and several other stringed instruments , Tim a champion fiddler, Scott the lead tenor and oldest of the original Bar J, Dan who sings deep, deep, deep and of course Brian who hangs on to the bass fiddle/cello and keeps everyone on their toes with his antics. A favorite of the show is Granny, who comes out and sings a mixed up song.

After the show it's time to tear down the set. We work side by side with the cowboys while they pack up their instruments and take down the set, sweep the floor (that's my special job) and turn out the lights. Despite the hard work and late nights this is something we enjoy.

Behind the scene

When it's time for tithing settlement it takes more than just the bishop to make it go smoothly. The clerk and a counselor are there behind the scene, making and reminding appointments, printing reports, entertaining casual visitors, and helping to eat whatever yummy comes through the door. Despite the long hours (thanks wives for sharing them), they don't complain too loud and even are known to have a little fun.

To who ever shared this flu, no thanks. Bishop went to bed last night feeling a little off and it didn't take long before he was making frequent trips to the bathroom. So the tithing settlement appointments for tonight will need to be rescheduled. Sorry about that, but he doesn't want to share this flu with any more than necessary.
PS. Dr. Jared Thompson called in some orders, bed rest and Gatorade, so he is working on getting better as soon as possible.

Sunday Soup

What a better way to enjoy a sabbath than to have dinner with your neighbors. The menu was soup (corn chowder, cream of potato, cream of brocolli, chili, and hamburger/carrot definitely my favorite, maybe because we made it, HMMMM) in a bread bowl, with the neighbors bringing side dishes and desserts. It was all delicious (Mckell, I would love to have your cookie recipe). The company was excellent.

Conference Weekend

It doesn't happen very often but the Bishop sneaks away for a day or two. One of the perks of serving at BYU-I is the people we become friends with. FYI, the bishop served as a counselor in another ward, 11th Ward. Their executive secretary became one of those great friends. They just moved back to Idaho (from southern Utah) and we decided to hang with them. We had a great time and really enjoyed the kids. He colored with the girls, played find the monster with the boy and even snuck in a little conference. Helping with the shoes.
We took them to eat at a place that had a play area. We had forgotten what it was like to try and get little ones to eat and keep track of them playing and still get a few bits in yourself.
We love all the people we have gotten to know and are thankful for this opportunity.

General Relief Society Broadcast dinner

It was time for the annual Relief Society Broadcast. In past years the Stake has had a buffet dinner for the women. Usually it has been on campus but this year we were able to enjoy it in our own building. It was so nice. We were able to set up table with table cloths for 360 sisters and keep everyone in the same room. Dinner went off like clock work. The only dilemma was the fact that we were unable to get a satellite feed. One sister even offered to hook up to her wireless Internet but again we couldn't get a connection. This meant everyone either had to watch it at home or go up to the Hart building on campus. Rebecca and another stake member

As leaders we went up to the Hart. It was wonderful to be amidst so many sisters all focused on what our General RS Presidency had to say. When they sang the intermission hymn it was incredible. I had to just stop and listen and enjoy.

As a Stake RS Presidency we appreciate every one that came and dined with us and were so good about the fact we couldn't get a broadcast feed. (They are hoping to have the problem solved for this coming weekends Priesthood feed).

Dedication Dinner

The largest Stake Center in the church can be found in Rexburg Idaho. It was dedicated on Sunday September 14 by Elder Chambers. We feel so lucky have been apart of this event. As part of this event the ward had a dedication dinner, held in the club house.

It was a pasta bar, with marinara and alfredo sauces. Waiting in line to be served. The rest of the meal the ward members brought salads and desserts.

Who is he really?

There is a secret side to the bishop that he doesn't share with many people. You just have to catch him in a weak moment as someone did this last week. In 1939 his grandfather and brother built a train. Not one of those cute model trains that many little boys have, but the kind you ride at an amusement park. Over the years they expanded it, retrieving track from some of the mines around Idaho, until it was 1/3 of mile long, 2 engines, 3 cars and a caboose. The Beazer Short Line departs from the station, taking you past the forest, follows the ditch, then over the bridge, around the horse pasture, back over the bridge, past the repair shed, though the tunnel (aka his shop), past the garden before ending back at the station. People of all ages, colors, sizes and nationalities have been taken for rides. The sound of the engine cranking up brings all kinds of people out of the woodwork, usually neighbors. Today it was a group of lively Achievement day girls. Wow, were they lively. The weather was perfect which made it nice. It will soon be time to put it away for the winter. Since his father died 5 years ago the bishop has been the head engineer. I am just a member of the section crew, and the official gate tender. (sometimes the horses like to wander) Despite the time and work involved it's something we enjoy.

Visiting Teaching Jamboree

TWO years memories

Two years ago this last week we bagan this adventure. It has been the best two years so far of our lives. We feel so privileged to have been able to serve in the BYU-I 67th Ward. Some of the most incredible people have lived in Stonebrook and we have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them. We are so blessed to know each and everyone and feel we are better because of it. They have taught us so much. I wish there was enough room to include pictures of everyone, but that would take pages and pages and you may get bored with our memories. A day of "firsts"

After 3 years of talk, work and waiting we were finally able to attend church in our new building. What a treat. Benches, real mother's lounges, and more. It was so nice, even if the air conditioning didn't work in the Relief Society Room. One of the perks of the new building is that when the weather is decent our ward is with in walking distance. Float part 2

The bishop took some picture along the float. Luckily it was a disposable camera as he dropped inside his tube at least twice. Some of the pictures are blurry and a bit scratched but what can you expect after the camera did some time in the water. A lazy float.

Ward Float the Dry Bed

In Jefferson county there is a channel of the Snake River called the "dry beds." This channel was the main channel at one time but through the years it changed. A head gate was built where it breaks off into this channel so they can now control when there is was in it. During the winter they close the channel and it becomes dry, thus the name "dry beds." During the summer it is a favorite place to float. You put in at about 4200 E. and float to the Jefferson County Lake, a trip of about 2 1/2 miles that takes about 2 hours. The ward met at the Lake then car pooled up to the launching point.

After the float, we enjoyed a meal of hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, corn-on-the-cob, and salad. It was wonderful. Can you believe Jared ate 4 hamburgers, salad chips and more, how does he stay so thin?

Moving Day

Tuesday, August 26th was moving day. The bishopric, clerks, and other presidencies, met at the Austin, sorted through books, papers and drawers, filled boxes and cars and headed for the new church. Bishop, Jared, Jake hard at work.

The Relief Society, Jelinda, Andrea, Celeste are excited to have a real closet of their own. Luckily they didn't have a lot of stuff so it didn't take long to put it away.
Piano lessons

The new piano is electronic. This means that the pianist doesn't necessarily need to know how to play, just how to work the piano, which has 160 hymn programed into it.

Remember Sunday August 31st we have church in the new building, beginning at 9am.

The Bishop's office and RS \ PH \ classrooms can be found on the east side, and we use the south chapel.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Dishes and more dishes

You would never dream all the things it takes to put together a new church building. Boxes and boxes of stuff to be unloaded. Chalk and erasers, hymn books, sacrament trays and table clothes, piano's, chairs, clerks supplies, pictures, manuals, and TVs, I could go on and on. Today (Monday, August 25th), our ward had the opportunity of helping to set up the kitchen at the church. It was a lot of work but we all enjoyed it. We helped to wash, dry, and put away dishes for about 400 people. There were also mixing spoons, knives, spatulas, and ice cream scoops all needing to be taken care of.

It's a good thing there was someone tall who could stack the dishes on the highest shelves. Sister Broulim, Jared, Celeste and Cait.
Jared washed all 400 glasses under Sister Broulims strict supervision. Some of them got it twice, (usually because they were dropped). He did a great job. A rare photo of Sister Beazer (someone snuck her camera away from her). She kept Jared's sink full.

The Shovel: part 2

It's official "the shovel" is no longer taking up space in our bedroom. I personally took it up to the Bishop's office today. It currently sits in the corner, hidden by the credenza. This is not necessarily a permanent position and any suggestions as where it could go may be submitted to "the shovel placement committee." Please feel free to stop by, check it out, and make your opinion known.

PS. The committee has been known to take bribes.

The Shovel

After the Bishop reviewed the blogs and corrected a few grammatical errors, he pointed out that many of you readers may not understand what the shovel is. So I best explain and it is very simple. This shovel was used at the ground breaking for the stake center. Each of the Bishops in attendance received one to put in his office. For the last two years it has sat in our bedroom, moving from corner to corner, waiting for a Bishop's office to hang out in. We were tempted a few times to use it in our own yard, but were afraid it may get dirty. The Bishop doesn't know where in his office it will go but at least it will be out of our bedroom.

Sneak Preview

Tonight they gave the Bishop's and other stake people a tour of the new stake center. Wow, it is big, beautiful and just plain wonderful. The largest in the church (until they build one bigger), with 2 chapels with organs and pianos, 2 Relief Society rooms, 2 kitchens with dishes, 2 libraries, 5 women's restrooms, 2 mother's lounges, 2 primary and nursery with the cutest little sink and toilet, lots of closets, 8 Bishop and clerk offices, and a nice sized Stake office suite. It will be so nice for those who get to attend there. The south chapel, notice it has windows (the north does not).

We can hardly wait to get the shovel out of our bedroom and into the office. Brother Hansen and Conover checking out clerks supplies. There were boxes in our clerks office labeled Bishop kit with all kinds of goodies inside, such as paper, stapler, hole punch, pens, scissors, paper clips, and stick pins. There was even a phone. We will now have an official phone # for the ward.

A day of "LASTS"

Today was a bitter-sweet day filled with "Lasts." It was the last Sunday for the 67th ward to meet in the Austin, in a makeshift nursery, no organ, and the smell of automotive. The last Sunday for the 8th stake to have all the same wards, before the big split, the last time Sister Beazer would have to speak in the 51st Ward, (they are going to a different stake), the last time we as a Stake Relief Society had to find a room to meet in, the last time for Bishop Hansen of the 11th ward (he was released today), the last time to go up the hill to church. The sweet of the day was that is was last of many things and next time the ward meets it will be in our new stake center. A real nursery, an organ, benches, a real bishop and clerks office, a real Relief Society and Primary room, a kitchen and mother's lounge, closets to store stuff in, better parking, walking to church an option, knowing that it is our building. It will require that we take our turn at setting up chairs, cleaning, shoveling snow, setting up and taking down chairs, locking up and turning out the lights, small sacrifices for enjoying a new building.

Recipe Exchange

This is my idea of a great time, food and recipes. The Relief Society go together to share a favorite recipe, and of course a sample was suggested. There was a wide variety of delicious food. We had Maddy's Chicken Crescant Roll-ups, Christine's Soda Cracker Cookies, Amber's Bread Sticks, and Kaitlyn's Fried Raviolli. There just wasn't enough time to write down all the recipes.
